National Year of Reading – Redhill library Family Fun Day 14 February

In February, our newly transformed Redhill Library will be taking center stage and offer a variety of events and activities to promote the National Year of Reading. This includes a ‘Love your Library’ Family Fun Day on Saturday 14 February with the following events:

  • Three unique Circus Skills workshops for children aged 5 to 12. Tickets £5 per child. To book your tickets, please visit our ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries Eventbrite page.
  • A special Pebble Rhymtime for the young ones
  • Craft and LEGO events for children
  • A Family History event for the whole family

Some of our other libraries are also putting on a special National Year of Reading events in February, including:

  • Thursday 19 February: Decorate a Tote Bag using sewing machines, hand sewing and fabric paints. At Merstham Library, 10am -12pm, £2.50 per person. Book your space by emailing merstham.library@surreycc.gov.uk.
  • Friday 20 February: Special Storytime with Jelly Kelly. At Chertsey Library,  11am start. Free event, no need to book, just drop in. Everyone is welcome.

Adult author events

  • Monday 2 February: Jacqueline Jones talks about her book The Everyday and the Far Away, a heart warming tale about love, loss and connection. At Banstead Library, 3pm start. Tickets £3.
  • Thursday 5 February: Mark Billingham and Abir Mukherjee talk about crime fiction and thrillers, and the difficult journey to become bestselling novelists. At Redhill Library, 7pm start. Tickets £8.
  • Thursday 12 February: Beth O’Leary for an evening of conversation and stories. She will talk about her latest bestseller, Swept Away. At Staines Library Hub, 6.30pm start. Tickets £5. Suitable for ages 16+.
  • Thursday 26 February: Discover 1920s intrigue with local author Michelle Salter and her passion for classic murder mysteries. At Frimley Green Library, 6.30pm start. Tickets £6.

Tree giveaway - Saturday 7 February

In support of ßÙßÇÂþ»­’s 1.2m Tree Strategy, to plant one tree for every ßÙßÇÂþ»­ resident by 2030, ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries are pleased to be giving away free trees at the following libraries on Saturday 7 February:

  • 9:30am to 12 noon: Banstead, Egham, Ewell Court, Guildford, Redhill Library
  • 10am to 12 noon: Byfleet and Virginia Water Library

The trees are native, broad-leaved species and come with a stake and guard, ready for garden planting. We will also provide a leaflet containing information on how to plant and care for your tree to give it the best start in its new home. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.


Creative Writing Workshop – Weybridge Library

ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries are offering a creative storytelling workshop with acclaimed author Sara Clifford. The workshop is inspired by The Other Library Installation by disability-led that is currently touring ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries. Together you'll explore stories through guided activities, the places that shape you, and the characters—real or imagined—that help you see yourself in new ways.

This workshop offers a safe space: you choose what you want to share, and how you want to express your story.

At Weybridge Library, Tuesday 10 February, 4pm to 5.30pm. Event is suitable for ages 16+. Tickets available with a donation, to be booked via page.


Escalate Arts Youth Collective – Staines Hub Library

Escalate Arts Youth Collective supports young people aged 11 to 24 years to develop their own creative skills and programme cultural events in the new Staines Library Hub.  Young people will gain experience in leadership, event production and design. The following events will take place in February:

  • Create Club: Weekly drop-in sessions to work with a local artist or just use our space. Young people can bring along their art homework and complete it with some help from our artist if wanted. First session Wednesday 11 February, 4pm to 5.30pm. For 11 to 18 year olds. No need to book, just drop in.
  • Event Planning Workshop: A hands-on workshop to help young people turn an event idea into a clear plan. Wednesday 18 February, 10am to 3pm. For 13 to 24 year olds. Costs £5 per person. Please bring your own lunch and drinks. Book your place via .
  • National Saturday Club: Build Your Own Brand, an immersive journey through design, fashion, photography and content creation for young creative entrepreneurs. Club dates: 28 February to 30 June, 1pm to 3pm. For 13 to 16 years old. Free Club, but you need to register via

Dungeons and Dragons Club – Guildford library

Guildford Library is launching a new Dungeons and Dragons Club. At their first taster session, attendees will be making their characters, getting to know each other, and learning the basics of Dungeons & Dragons. All equipment required will be available at the library such as dice, character sheets and stationery.

At Guildford Library, every second Saturday of the month, 2.30pm to 4.30pm. First taster session is on Saturday 14 February. £1 per child. Due to popularity of the club, registration is necessary beforehand by emailing guildford.library@surreycc.gov.uk.


New Needlework Club – Esher Library

Esher Library is starting a new Needlework Club. Bring you embroidery, needlework or cross stitch project to work on or start. You will be in the company of other stitchers. We offer a supportive environment to build confidence in your needlework and share tips over a cup of coffee. No experience necessary.

At Esher Library, first Thursday of every month at 10.30am. Next session is on Thursday 5 February.  Free to attend but a small donation towards tea/ coffee is appreciated. No need to register, just drop in.


BookTrust Storytime sessions

BookTrust Storytime is a wonderful way for families with children under 5 to enjoy stories together and discover everything your local library has to offer. Library staff will read a brilliant selection of books chosen by BookTrust designed for family fun, along with playful activities that help bring each story to life. Come along to Ashtead, Camberley, Egham, Epsom, Godalming, Horley and Merstham libraries and be part of choosing this year's BookTrust Storytime winner, you're vote could be the decider!

The Romantasy Roundtable book group – Farnham Library

We are starting a new ‘Romantasy’ book group at Farnham Library. The group is aimed at readers who like magical world settings with central love stories, appealing to fans of fairy tales, epic fantasy and romance. A fun relaxed group of mixed adult age range and reading experience. The age range is 18+.

At Farnham Library, every first Tuesday of the month, from 6pm to 6.45pm. First session is on Tuesday 3 February. If you would like to join the group, speak to a member of staff in Farnham Library or email farnham.library@surreycc.gov.uk.


Lewis Carrol display touring ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries

ßÙßÇÂþ»­ History Centre’s Lewis Carroll collection has been growing for over 75 years. In 2025 they marked 160 years since the first publication of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ with a fascinating display that is now touring the following libraries:

  • February: Staines library
  • March: Guildford library
  • April: Farnham library
  • May: Redhill library
  • June: Epsom library
