Warm Welcome in ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries

Warm Welcomes are returning this winter to provide safe, welcoming, and warm spaces for all from 1 November until 31 March 2026. Run in partnership with community groups in ßÙßÇÂþ»­, over 80 Warm Welcome venues will be open for everyone to enjoy a hot drink, get warm and connect with their local community.

Our libraries offer several events including Knit and Stitch, Coffee and Chat, and Craft sessions during the winter to keep you entertained as part of our Warm Welcome offer (with of course a warm cup of coffee or tea). For a full list of Warm Welcomes, visit our Warm Welcome webpage.


Adult author events

  • Crime-writing duo Nicola Upson and Mandy Morton are hosting a festive afternoon of mystery and mayhem. At Staines Library, Monday 10 November, from 2pm to 3pm and at Camberley Library, Monday 10 November, from 7pm to 8m. Tickets £5. To book your ticket, please visit page.
  • Join author, journalist and broadcaster Jane Thynne for a talk on her latest novel, “Appointment in Paris”. At Ashtead Library, Tuesday 11 November, from 6pm to 7pm. Tickets £5. To book your ticket, please visit page.
  • Roseanna Rolf will discuss her latest book "Dear Mr Snippet."  This is the true story of her grandparents, as newlyweds, living through the tensions and brutalities of the Second World War. At Oxted Library, Friday 21 November, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Tickets £2 including refreshments. Book your ticket in person at Oxted Library or send an email to oxted.library@surreycc.gov.uk.

Free Children’s illustrator event at Ashtead Library

Join us at Ashtead Library to hear illustrator Wendy Warren talk about her heart-warming picture book ‘The Bear Who Wanted to Dance’. This beautiful book is all about self-acceptance, body positivity, representation and of course dancing! After Wendy has read from her book, there will be a bear related craft.

At Ashtead Library, Saturday 29 November, from 11am to 12 noon. Suitable for ages 3 upwards. This is a free event, but booking is necessary. Book your ticket in person at Ashtead Library or by sending an email to ashtead.library@surreycc.gov.uk.


ComiCon event at Epsom Library

Attention fandom and comics geeks, LibraryCon is back for 2025 at the newly refurbished Epsom Library! Last year we had over 500 attendees, and this event is expected to be even bigger with workshops, Q&As and a cosplayer contest with fabulous prizes. This year we are also partnering with Epsom Square as part of their Christmas Con Celebration with parades, meet-ups and live music.

The convention at Epsom Library is on Saturday 22 November, from 10am to 4pm. It is free to attend. Just drop in, no need to book. There are a couple of paid workshops during the day. These include:

  • Workshop on Comics Storyboarding and Composition with Comics artist Dominique Duong. Saturday 22 November, from 11am to 1pm. Suitable for anyone aged 12 and older. Tickets £5.
  • Q&A session hosted by Alex Fitch of Panel Borders and includes Comics Laureate Hannah Berry, Zara Slattery (The British Book Design and Production Award Winner, Coma) and Alex Moore (Death Drop: Drag Assassin). Saturday 22 November, from 2pm to 3pm. Suitable for all ages. Tickets £2.

The Sticky Dance – Imagination Spaces performances

ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries is partnering up again with Second Hand Dance. They will bring The Sticky Dance to our libraries, an interactive dance performance for children and their families. Offering a warm, inclusive space where children and families are welcome to explore through moving, watching, listening, dancing and making noise.

The Sticky Dance for Sensory Groovers: in addition to the fully accessible public performances at 10am, Second Hand Dance have private performances offered specifically for children aged 3 to 8 years old, who have additional needs and/or disabilities.  These are also happening at the same libraries:

  • Camberley Library, Tuesday 4 November, from 11.30am to 12 noon
  • Staines Library, Wednesday 5 November, from 11.30am to 12 noon
  • Weybridge Library, Thursday 6 November, from 11.30am to 12 noon
  • Farnham Library, Friday 7 November, from 11.30am to 12 noon

ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Youth Arts and Culture Festival at Staines Library

On Saturday 8 November the annual ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Youth Arts and Culture Festival will take place between 11am and 3pm, this year in Staines. The festival offers free workshops and shows for young people aged 11 to 18. The festival helps young people get involved in the arts. It also shows the great ways to learn and grow creative skills in ßÙßÇÂþ»­.

The following events are happening at Staines Library on that day:

  • Juggling and Object Manipulation workshop with Circle of Two, 11am to 12 noon
  • Come and Try (a new instrument) with ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Arts, 12 noon to 3pm
  • Sounds Labs with ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Arts, 3 workshops: 11am to 12 noon, 12.30pm to 1.30pm, 2pm to 3pm.
  • Kathak Indian Dance Performance and Workshop, 11.45am to 12.45pm
  • Coding Games with Chaos Created, 3 workshops: 11am to 12.10pm, 12.40pm to 1.50pm, 2.20pm to 3.10pm
  • Micro-Museum in collaboration with Spelthorne Museum, 2 workshops: 11.15am to 12.45pm, 1.15pm to 2.45pm
  • Inclusive StopGap Dance workshop, 13pm to 2.30pm
  • Live Scribling with Annalees Lim all day (drop-in event, no need to book)

Death Café at Ewell Library

Death is an inevitable part of life, yet most of us find it a very difficult topic to talk about. We want to normalise the conversation and help lead the discussion. In partnership with , we are hosting a Death Café. Free and open to anyone, this is a safe space to talk about your thoughts and feelings around death and dying. Come along and join the conversation.

At Ewell Library, Friday 14 November, from 10am to 11.30am. Free to attend, but you need to book your place by visiting The Brigitte Trust website or email admin@briggittetrust.com.


Unearthed: Living knowledge network exhibition at Walton Library

ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Libraries are proud to be one of the Living Knowledge Network Libraries across the UK hosting the inspiring Unearthed: The Power of Gardening exhibition. This exhibition focuses on gardens, plants and community sustainability. It celebrates gardening as a force for creativity, resilience and connection. From the people who have fought for the right and space to garden to the stories of the plants we use for food and medicine, discover how gardening has shaped our lives, our communities, and our planet. This unique exhibition is currently at Walton Library until 18 November.

Food, Glorious Food: talk with Jenny Deeprose at Merstham Library

Join us for a tasty afternoon with Jenny Deeprose, food journalist and international cheese judge. Discover the history of food and celebrate the joy of eating with family and friends. At Merstham Library, Tuesday 4 November, from 6pm to 7pm. Tickets are £3 including refreshments. They can be booked in person at Merstham Library or email merstham.library@surreycc.gov.uk.


World Nursery Rhyme Week

This year World Nursery Rhyme Week is from 10 to 14 November. This week promotes the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development and education. Nursery Rhymes are excellent teaching tools and can help develop language and literacy skills, numeracy skills and social, physical and emotional skills.

Our libraries are celebrating this week with some inspiring and fun Rhymetime and Storytime sessions, including:

  • Farnham Library: three special Rhymetime and Storytime sessions on 10, 11 and 12 November.
  • Horley Library: a special ‘Dads and Grandads Rhymetime’ on 15 November
  • Oxted Library: a special ‘Storytime with Craft’ on 13 November, and a ‘Pebble Rhymetime’ on 14 November.
