A message of hope from our Ukrainian friends

Below, a recent learner on the ESOL course in Camberley shares why she decided to join the classes at the Camberley Centre and the positive outcomes for her.

"My name is Sofia, I'm from Vinnytsia city in west-central Ukraine. All my life I've lived, studied and worked there. Before leaving Ukraine, I worked as a social media manager and plus in my free time I was a graphic designer in some small projects. I thought I found my way in life. My life was planned almost to the minute – wake up, work, gym, meeting with my friends in bar with a couple of cocktails or resting with my family, traveling and many other things. As well, I was waiting for the moment when repair in my flat will be finished. It was supposed to be my own little magical space. Yes, I can say for sure I was enjoing of my life's rhythm.

However, I think everyone knows what changed life of Ukrainians. It was war.

I lost my way, I didn't understand what I can do next. At the beginning I was like robot, just did things automatically. Time were going forever. On the 4th day, decision was made to go to Poland. Me, my mom, pregnant stepsister and my 2 years old niece sat on the car and went. It was long way and I don't know how, but all time we were really strong. We just drove and, ignored situation, joked.

Two month after how we stayed in Poland, my cousin offered me to go to London. It was a difficult decision for me, but I understood it's good possibility to come back on my way again and improve my English. Also, short about my English… I started learn it at school and I had many good extra courses, but the main problem what I had it's the absence motivation… Unfortunately. Well, my opinion changed now and I had admit English very important for a high level of living.

As well, I would like to tell about some things in the UK, which was unusual for me on the first time when I came. Accent – I knew I didn't speak English very well, but when I heard this accent my brain was shocked. Foxes – there are so many here. By the way, I can say the same about pubs and bars. Bar culture is very developed and popular here. Architecture – small red brick houses fascinate me. And of course people – they are always smiling and friendly.

In conclusion I want to say I don't regret that I came to England to study at ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Adult Learning.

I'm working, learning English and in the future, I hope I can find job in my favorite work area. I'm sure I have enough energy for it."
