Works to resume on 5 January 2026

Town centre improvement works in Farnham are due to resume on Monday 5 January with a three-month closure of The Borough between Castle Street and the Royal Deer Junction.

This phase will widen pavements, and install a paved pedestrian crossing and a new loading bay. This requires a road closure to enable the works to be carried out and keep construction teams safe.

The road will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists during the work, and shops will always be accessible during opening hours. There will be additional lane closures at the Royal Deer Junction.

Travelling around Farnham

People are advised to find alternative ways of travelling where they can or use travel apps such as Google Maps or Waze to find the best route to their destination. The official diversion route goes up Castle Street, Castle Hill and Folly Hill. It then follows Upper Hale Road and Hale Road via the Six Bells Roundabout to East Street. Please see the route in .

Changes to bus routes

Due to the closure of The Borough, there will be timetable and route changes to bus routes 4, 5, 16, 18, 19, 65 and 404. There are no changes to route 46.

Please check our temporary changes to bus services for road closures page for full details.

Other works

In addition to The Borough works, there will also be overnight repaving works to the pedestrian crossovers at Lower and Upper Church Lanes, and footpath diversions as works continue in West Street. As the overnight resurfacing in South Street couldn’t be completed in December, as the construction teams need three consecutive dry nights –that work will be rescheduled for the spring.

Works completed in 2025

Since works began in Farnham town centre in February 2025:

  • Drivers can now turn right out of Castle Street, and the Waggon Yard car park, so they don’t need to drive around the gyratory unnecessarily
  • The Longbridge junction has been upgraded
  • Pavements in Downing Street have been replaced and the road resurfaced
  • Borelli Walk and Riverside Walk have been upgraded, with a new shared route for walkers and cyclists from the Riverside car parks to South Street via Brightwells.

Visit the Farnham town centre improvement works page for more details about the project.
