ATLAS stands for Accept, Teach, Listen, Access, Support. It’s a group for young people aged 8 to 25 in ßÙßÇÂþ» who have additional needs or disabilities. ATLAS helps young people share their views with the goal to make services better for other young people.
What do ATLAS do?
ATLAS gives young people a safe space to speak up. Members meet regularly to talk about their experiences and ideas. They work with professionals to improve services like health, education, and social care.
We work closely with the All Age Autism Strategy who are working to make ßÙßÇÂþ» autism friendly and increase opportunities for autistic people.
ATLAS also runs projects to raise awareness about ableism and the importance of inclusion. They help make sure young people’s voices are heard and respected in decisions that affect them.
Who can join ATLAS?
Anyone aged 8 to 25 who lives, works or goes to school in ßÙßÇÂþ» and has an additional need or disability can join.
This includes young people who have neurodevelopmental differences. For example, autism and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and/or dyspraxia as well as physical disabilities and chronic health conditions.
You don’t need a diagnosis – just a wish to share your views and help make things better.
What can I expect when I join an ATLAS meeting?
ATLAS meetings are friendly and welcoming. You’ll meet other young people, share your thoughts, and help shape services.
Importantly, our meetings are accessible and inclusive, and we adjust to individual needs and support all communication preferences. Meetings are online or in person. Staff are there to support you.
You might hear from guest speakers, take part in fun activities such as socials, and give feedback on real projects. You can join in as much or as little as you like.
What are the benefits of joining ATLAS?
- Share your voice and be heard
- Help improve services for young people
- Build confidence and learn new skills
- Meet others with similar experiences
- Take part in creative projects
- Learn about your rights
- Make a real difference in your community
- Be part of a group that fights ableism
I like ATLAS because you get to meet nice people and make new friends and talk about stuff in ßÙßÇÂþ» that you want to change to bring positive things to other young people.
Making positive change for others who can’t share their voice is what makes me feel valued.
Joining ATLAS helps you grow, speak up, and shape the future. It’s a chance to learn, connect, and lead positive change.
