Disposing of upholstered seating

Upholstered seating commonly contains persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which are chemical substances that have the potential to cause damage to the environment if they are in waste that is not managed responsibly.

This includes:

  • Sofas
  • Armchairs
  • Futons
  • Sofa-beds
  • Upholstered dining chairs and office chairs
  • Beanbags
  • Floor cushions
  • Upholstered stools and foot stools
