How we manage waste and recycling in ßÙßÇÂþ»

ßÙßÇÂþ» (SCC) is responsible for taking the county's household waste and reusing or recycling it or turning it into energy. The waste comes to us after being collected by ßÙßÇÂþ»'s district and borough councils or it is brought to community recycling centres by residents.

We are also responsible for the county's community recycling centres (CRCs) and its Eco Park. There are 14 CRCs in ßÙßÇÂþ», which include five Revive shops where residents can buy pre-owned items. The Eco Park in Shepperton is a facility where recycling is stored, sorted and bulked, food waste is turned into fertilizer and rubbish is turned into energy.

We manage , which operates these sites on our behalf.

Landfill

Landfill is the disposal of waste into or onto land by means of burial. In ßÙßÇÂþ», only a small proportion of waste is sent to landfill. Usually, this is either because the material is unsuitable for energy from waste plants, such as bulky waste, or because a suitable energy from waste plant was unavailable, for example due to maintenance shutdown.

To find out more about the total waste that is collected in ßÙßÇÂþ» and what happened to it once it was disposed of, read the report.
