You can appeal if you live in ßÙßÇÂþ» and:
- you think we made a mistake
- you have extra information you want us to consider
- your child is at their nearest available school but does not meet the distance rule and you believe the walking route is unsafe
Before you appeal, please contact us if your concern is about journey times or a change to your child’s current travel.

Exceptional circumstances
We may agree to provide home to school transport if there are exceptional reasons your child can’t get to school without it. Include any evidence when you appeal.
Examples include:
- you or your child has a medical condition or disability, that affects travel
- an accident or medical procedure means you can’t transport your child as usual
- the walking route to school is unsafe
- family difficulties mean you can’t get your child to school safely
Stage one appeal
Fill in the online stage one appeal form within 20 working days of the decision.
Attach any supporting evidence.
We’ll send a written outcome within 20 working days.
If your appeal is successful, we’ll email you with the travel plans.
Please don’t submit duplicate appeals – this may delay the process.
You can request a stage two appeal if you are unhappy with the outcome.
Stage two appeal
If you are unhappy with the stage one outcome, you can ask for a stage two review, within 20 working days. Details of how to start this process will be in the stage one outcome letter.
An Independent Review Panel of County Councillors and senior council officers will look at your case.
You can present your case in a Microsoft Teams meeting.
We’ll send you full details of the process once we receive your request.
You’ll get the panel’s decision by post, usually within 5 to 10 working days.
