Course overview

Course intent

In this workshop, your tutor Sam will teach you her top tips and tricks to help you improve your drawings and create a greater variety of tone and texture. Using a visualiser, you’ll follow along as Sam draws in real-time, guiding you through every step of the process. Learners will draw from photographs as well as from life, experimenting with translating a 3D object into a 2D drawing.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to:

  • Break down a complex form into simple shapes.
  • Check the proportions of your drawings.
  • Add a full range of tones to create realistic light and shadow.
  • Recreate textures accurately.
  • Use tools to help blend and define your work.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This workshop is aimed at beginners and improvers. Students will be guided through each drawing step-by-step, so it is suitable for those who want to become more confident and see an improvement quickly.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Learners need to bring:

  • Drawing pencils, including HB, 2B and 4B pencils)
  • A rubber
  • A sharpener
  • A thick Graphite stick (ideally 6B or above)
  • Paper blending stumps
  • Cartridge Paper min. 150gsm A3 or A4 pad

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners will feel much more confident in their drawing abilities and will be able to draw a range of subjects. You may even wish to enrol on a ßÙßÇÂþ»­ Adult Learning course in the next term to continue your creative journey.
