The reasons why we use your personal data
This privacy notice applies to the functions of the Parent Carer Advisory Panel.
We want to find out how we can improve the way we support your children and young people by inviting parent carers to join the ßÙßÇÂþ» (SCC) Parent Carer Advisory Panel. You don’t have to take part but if you do want to, then please read the information below.
Why are we doing this – Parent carers who sign up to the panel will use their lived experience of using our services to contribute to ßÙßÇÂþ» activities as an ‘Expert by Experience’, working with others to help improve services and taking part in engagement and participation activities.
What processing of personal data is undertaken by the service?
We need to collect and process your personal data so that you can become a member and participate in the Parent Carer Advisory Panel. Your participation will be to provide parent carer insight and feedback on a range of important issues, including service design, policy design and communications material benefiting all ßÙßÇÂþ» parents and carers, their children and young people.
In addition, we collect your personal data for equal opportunities monitoring.

- Sex/Gender
- Ethnic Group
- Borough of residence
- Disability status
- Number of children with an additional need and/or disability
- Type of educational support received by your child/ren
- Primary needs of your child/ren
- Other professional services with involvement
- Opinions and expressions
How we are allowed to use your personal data
Consent
If you choose to join the panel, we will process your personal data on the legal basis of consent. We will explain to you what we are asking you to agree to and why.
You have the right to remove your consent at any time. If you want to remove your consent, please contact us at the following email address and.participation@surreycc.gov.uk and we will deal with your request.
We will process your personal ethnicity, health and condition information in accordance with the equality, diversity and inclusion requirements of the Equality Act 2010. When undertaking equality, diversity and inclusion monitoring and also when we undertake research relating to your political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs and data concerning health we will seek your explicit consent.
Who we share your personal data with
Your data will be held securely and will only be seen by the SCC Education and Lifelong Learning, Participation Team.
We might use information that you have provided during our discussion groups, interviews or surveys to write a report which will be shared with other teams in the Council. We will not include your name in this, and no-one will know that the answers have come from you. Any reports will be used to help staff to keep improving our services and practice.
Retention of data
We will retain your information for the purpose of membership to the Panel for 3 years unless it is no longer needed, at which point it will be deleted.
