Biggest ever surfacing programme completed
It has been a busy summer for our highways teams! The biggest ever surfacing programme for ßÙßÇÂþ» has been completed and over 400,000 metres of road markings have been refreshed.
Surface dressing
Surface dressing is a cost effective, environmentally friendly treatment. It makes roads safer, smoother to travel on, and prolongs their life by over ten years. It also helps prevent potholes forming. Over 70 roads across ßÙßÇÂþ» were resurfaced using this method from June to August this year.
Road markings
We are also spending £2m this year to improve road markings across the county. This will make our roads safer and improve their visual appearance. 406,000 metres of line painting took place from April to September. This is an increase of 292% from the same period last year.
These works involve refreshing white and yellow road markings and parking bays on some of our busiest roads, as well as those most in need of updating. These included major motorway junctions such as:
- M25 junction 6 (Godstone)
- M25 junction 8 (Reigate)
- M25 junction 9 (Leatherhead)
- M3 junction 1 (Sunbury Cross)
