Planting your way to a greener future
Our free tree give away is back! We know how popular our previous tree giveaways have been, so this winter we’re giving away another 4,000 trees at locations across ßÙßÇÂþ».
If you would like a free tree to plant at home, visit one of our seven community recycling centres (CRCs) from 9am to 4pm on:
- Friday 28 and Saturday 29 November
- Monday 1 December
To help us manage demand, pre-booking will be required, .
We have a mix of small and medium native tree species such as crab apple and Hazel. All trees will be given away with a handy guide with aftercare guidance and should be planted within 7 days.
There will be more giveaways early next year in some of our ßÙßÇÂþ» libraries, with details being confirmed in the new year.
Caring for trees
There are many things to consider when planting a tree including what soil type you are planting in, the size the tree will grow to, how much sunlight they need and the essential aftercare. Look at our guide to tree planting webpage to help your tree thrive and survive.
Our progress to planting 1.2 million trees
Together with our partners, we are making great progress towards our goal of planting 1.2 million trees, one for every resident by 2030.
Since the launch of the initiative in 2019, over 768, 832 trees have been planted across the county. By planting a tree from one of our giveaways you are helping us meet our target. You can find out more including where we have planted trees and add any trees you have planted to our interactive map. Visit our tree planting progress webpage to find out more.
Volunteering
We run tree planting events across ßÙßÇÂþ» throughout the tree planting season (November to March) and looking for more volunteers. If you enjoy being outdoors and have some spare time, you can . You don’t need to commit long term and can join ad hoc sessions to suit you.
Building resilience to climate change
In addition to tree planting, we are investing £500,000 in initiatives to help build resilience to climate change amongst residents, communities, businesses and schools. From improving your home’s energy efficiency and helping schools tackle the impacts of climate change, to funding community projects which aid nature recovery and flood resilience, we are committed to a greener future.
