Work progresses on developing community engagement frameworks
Work is progressing on the pilot Neighbourhood Area Committees (NACs) as part of Local Government Reorganisation plans. These NACs aim to bring people together for local collaboration and gather insight into towns and villages across ßÙßÇÂþ». They are being shaped by ßÙßÇÂþ» wide partners, including:
- elected councillors from all levels of local government
- police
- health
- voluntary, community and faith sectors
Three pilot areas are already in progress. These areas held initial workshops in July and are progressing towards initial Neighbourhood Area Committee (NAC) meetings in September:
- Dorking and villages
- Caterham, Warlingham and North Tandridge
- Esher and Cobham
The first workshops discussed ways of collaborative working, potential membership, and ensuring that NACs will be solution focused to drive local change.
It is expected that each NAC will have three committee meetings before the end of 2025. Following these meetings, learnings, evaluation and insights will be gathered to consider how and if NACs are further rolled out across ßÙßÇÂþ».
How can residents get involved?
We will be out and about talking to residents in the autumn to explore the ways in which communities would like to be involved in their local NACs. We want to develop a way for residents to feedback about their local area and have their say on concerns that NACs might prioritise.
More information can be found via our Neighbourhood Area Committees webpage.
We’ll also announce any upcoming community engagement events on our website.
