It is with much sadness and regret that I have to announce that the connection that I have had for the last 30 years with the 200 year old Russian Shipwreck Leather has finally come to an ‘End’ – It is ‘The End of the Line’.
We have finally used our last ‘hide’ and have made the final Wallets from 200 year old Reindeer leather. There are now only one or two Wallets left for sale on our website so if you are thinking about making a purchase, my advice would be – don’t hesitate!
The last Wallets were made by Jimmy who has been making our Wallets for the last 30 years. He is a master craftsman and extremely talented leather worker. It has been a great honour to work with him over the years.
Working with this 200 year old Russian Reindeer Leather has been a long long journey over the previous three decades. But it has been a privilege to work with this wonderful leather – I have been asked so many times ‘What makes this leather so special?’ Apart from the incredible story which is detailed on our website and in the book that we sell ‘The Wreck of the Metta Catherina’ I have explained that for me as a leather worker, working in Russian Reindeer Leather is like a concert violinist who has been given at Stradivarius to play.
This amazing leather challenges one’s ability as a craftsman but it repays one a thousand times over
